Dean Savage, or Savage as he is known, is a bounty hunter who brings in everyone his company sends him after. There
are wars going on throughout the galaxy, and just as he's come off his latest assignment Dean discovers that a band of
pirates are taking over the world that he left his wife on. Dean has been married for three years, but he and Alaya have
yet to consummate their marriage. As they began to make love on their wedding night Dean started to shift to his
Rabian image, then he saw the look of horror on Alaya's face. Since then he has been working with Hunters for Hire.
Savage thought he had put Alaya in a safe place. Now that he's ready to make a decision about his marriage he has to
race to rescue her from a fate that would be worse than death, and of course her death. When he arrives on Alaya's
planet he is relieved to find that she is safe in an encampment of people who've been on the run since the pirate’s arrival.
He must claim her and make her his before another night passes. Eventually, Savage will have to take his droids and fight
the pirates in the hours that come, but first he has to get Alaya to a safe place and determine whether he has a true
marriage or not. It's now or never. Alaya is so happy to have Savage back she starts making love with him and just as he is
about to change into his shifter form of a Rabian, she explains to him he misunderstood her reticence. Alaya wants
Savage to be all he is with her and take her as his wife in every way. If only that was the only thing they had to contend
with...
Savage is the first book in the Hunters for Hire series which is about a group of unique people with the ability to
change into other creatures and hunt down anyone who has broken the law. I was a little disturbed by the violence in the
story as it was brutal in some ways, but the way that Savage comes to Alaya's rescue was not only heroic it was stunning
to read about. I enjoyed the way that the tension continued from the moment Savage got on his ship to rescue Alaya
through his fights with many pirates and to the dangers he encounters after that.
Savage has many sides to his personality and it was amazing to see each one unfold. Alaya is one lucky woman to have
such an amazing caring man who only wanted what was best for her to the point of denying himself his wife. I found it
interesting to see how each part of his personality comes out during the time he has Alaya back in his arms. Savage also
lives up to his name when he is fighting his enemies, but is soft and loving with Alaya. It was through his charm and rescue
that he was able to finally make Alaya his wife in every sense of the word. The love scenes were tender and demanding at
the same time.
Savage was an unusual story with a very different kind of shape shifter who has more humanity in him than most people
do. It was an intense story, but kept me enthralled until the end. I think you will enjoy this if you are a sci-fi fan. There is
lots of other worldly experience to read about in this book.
