Shot and mortally wounded on a stakeout by drug dealers, Sheriff Brad Keister's life is saved by his cousin Rusty, who
happens to be a vampire. Brad just wishes he had had the chance to think about this before it happened. Brad was very
respected as the Sheriff and he had a lot of activities he enjoyed, like coaching the youth baseball team, enjoying the
sun. Now what’s he gonna do?
In one short night Brad's whole life has been turned upside down. For heaven’s sake, he’s now a vampire! No more fun in
the sun for Brad, not to mention the fact that certain body parts no longer seem to come to life when needed. So,
Brad's not too happy with his new lot in life, until he meets Mandi O’Brian.
Mandi is visiting her friend Amber for her wedding to Rusty, Brad's cousin, and Mandi is in for quite a surprise. First she
ends up with her car in a ditch, then she chases Amber’s crazy cross eyed cat under the porch only to back into a rose
bush. All in front of Brad, who’s on his way to the house to take care of the crazy cat for Rusty and Amber while they
are away. Brad takes one look at Mandi and surprise, surprise; guess what….his body decides to come back to life.
Brad knows for sure, despite her prickliness, that he is going to get to know her better. Mandi is sure that this is going
to be a short stay so she can get back to her life in the big city, she isn’t cut out for backwater towns with redneck
Sheriffs and to top it off there is not a decent restaurant within a 100 mile radius.
Rednecks ‘N’ Rock Candy is Judy Mays second book about these characters. Ms. Mays has a knack for making
laughter come to her readers. I started this story wondering how this story was going to be entertaining, but I didn’t have
to wonder for long.
I have read a couple of Judy Mays stories, and as I started reading this one I quickly found Mandi’s disgust at being in a
backwater area and feeling like she was in the twilight zone really funny. Mandi’s constant comments to herself comparing
this town to what she was used to was hilarious. Her encounters with Brad are full of humor and sexuality. Brad looks
at Mandi and just knows that she is the one woman for him. I was in awe of the way that Brad decided to get Mandi into
his arms and not necessarily a bed, though that does comes with his intense sexuality. When Brad pours on the charm,
no woman is able to resist.
This story is fast paced and a lot of fun to read and be part of. I cheered Brad on to get Mandi into his life forever. If
you want a book that will cheer you up and make you feel all hot and bothered at the same time, you can’t go wrong with
this one. It has a little bit of everything and offers quite an enjoyable ride along the way.
