His Spanish-Indian heritage gives him the black hair and eyes, but his Indian mother is solely responsible for his free
spirit. Pirating since a boy, Aidan Mayon swore after his first lashing that no man would own him again, so at the tender
age of 23 years he captains a ship, the Jamaican Maid. His age doesn’t bode well with his pirating crew, for three days
upon leaving Tortuga, his crewmate Perkins commandeered a mutiny, which left his best friend Nathan Sterns dead and
Aidan tied to a barrel. While fending off sharks and drowning, the Cemi god majestically rises from the ocean depths to
save his sorry arse. At least that’s what he thought before waking up in a soft bed, cuffed to the headboard.
The planet Oracan is home to a reptilian humanoid race that has mastered the art of time travel that unites gone-by eras
to present year, 2587. Talos of Menalon, a time travel bounty hunter, is obsessed with Earth culture, most importantly
the 1920’s period; thus littering his speech with gangster slang that compliments his detached and frigid nature.
Mourning and weighed down with guilt over the death of his younger brother, Talos accepts a hunt on behalf of
Barlow, hoping the distraction will relieve his emotional burdens. Unbeknownst to him, the distraction may relieve him of
something more – his heart.
A delightful, intriguing time travel story, Details of the Hunt is full of adventure and humor. On the cusp of our
century’s pirate fixation, Laura Baumbach splendidly combines two romance genres - regency and futuristic - that include
buried treasure, sword fights, space stations, and laser guns. Oh! And hunky men! Her characters are multifaceted,
colorful and exciting. In Aidan, I sympathized at his revulsion to being enslaved again, while Talos’ sense of honor to his
family and people is amiable. Ms. Baumbach builds sexual conflict expertly, I became fully immerse in Talos’ ravenous
desire to possess the pirate and the control he wielded in denying his satisfaction. But, when Talos blatantly asks the
pirate for his heart, I could fully imagine the conflict ensuing within Aidan. The copulation was unique, to say the least,
but artfully done so the sexual release concluded beautifully. Details of the Hunt is an imaginative and charming
story, and not to be missed by time travel enthusiatists.
